Shirdi is a town in Rahata taluka, Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra. It lies on the Ahmednagar–Manmad State Highway No. 10, about 83 km from Ahmednagar and 15 km from Kopargaon.
Home of Shirdi Sai Baba
Shirdi is best known as the late-19th-century home of the popular guru Shirdi Sai Baba. According to tradition he arrived in the village as a young man in the mid-1850s and lived here until his death in 1918, teaching love, forgiveness, charity and devotion to one’s guru.
Devotees from every faith and region now travel to Shirdi. His Samadhi Mandir, built over the Buti Wada where he was laid to rest, is the heart of the town and one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in India.
A town built for pilgrims
The temple and much of the town’s infrastructure are managed by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust, which also runs guest houses, meals and bus transport for devotees. Reports in 2023 put the number of pilgrims at roughly 60,000 a day, rising sharply on festival days.

Shirdi is approximately 296 km from Mumbai and well connected by air, rail and road.
By air
Shirdi Airport at Kakadi, about 14 km south-west of the town, opened on 1 October 2017. Aurangabad (about 115 km) and Pune (about 186 km) are alternatives.
By rail
Sainagar Shirdi railway station, operational since March 2009, is just 2 km from the temple.
By road
The town is served by National Highway 160 and State Highway 10. The Sansthan runs buses from the station to its guest houses.

Kopargaon is 15 km away and Ahmednagar 83 km, so supplies, labour and services are close at hand.
